Siebenrockiella crassicolis, umumnya dikenal sebagai kura pipi putih, adalah spesies kura air tawar asli Asia Tenggara. Dia termasuk dalam keluarga Geoemydidae dan tersebar luas di berbagai negara di kawasan ini, termasuk Indonesia, yang terancam punah. Kura berukuran sedang (17-20 cm) ini hampir sepenuhnya hitam kecuali pola-pola putih atau kuning di kepalanya. Mereka menghabiskan sebagian besar waktunya di bawah air untuk memakan tumbuhan air, buah-buahan, serangga, moluska, dan ikan kecil. Meski mereka pemalu, kamu mungkin bisa melihat mereka berjemur di bebatuan atau menyatu dengan tumbuhan subur di siang hari. Kura pipi putih dianggap suci dan sering ditemukan dengan aman di kuil-kuil Buddhis Asia Tenggara. Saat terancam, mereka mengeluarkan sekresi berbau busuk untuk mengusir predator!
Siebenrockiella crassicolis, commonly known as the black marsh turtle, is an endangered species of freshwater turtle native to Southeast Asia. It belongs to the family Geoemydidae and is widely distributed across various countries in the region, including Indonesia. These medium-sized (17-20 cm) turtles are almost completely black apart from the white or yellow markings on their heads. They spend most of their time underwater where they love to snack on a mix of aquatic vegetation, fruits, insects, molluscs, and small fish. As shy as they are intriguing, you might catch them basking on rocks or blending into the lush vegetation during the day. The black marsh turtle is considered sacred and is often kept safe in Southeast Asian buddhist temples. When threatened, they excrete a foul-smelling secretion to deter predators!

Spesies ini terutama ditemukan di habitat air tawar seperti rawa-rawa, danau, dan sungai arus lambat. Dia memiliki jangkauan distribusi yang luas di Asia Tenggara. Di Indonesia diketahui dia ditemukan di berbagai daerah, antara lain sebagian Sumatra, Kalimantan, Jawa.
This species is primarily found in freshwater habitats such as swamps, lakes, and slow-moving streams. It has a wide distribution range across Southeast Asia. Within Indonesia, it is known to occur in various regions, including some parts of Sumatra, Borneo, and Java.

Kura ini dikenal karena perilakunya yang pemalu dan tertutup. Saat terancam, mereka mundur ke air dan bersembunyi di antara tumbuh-tumbuhan. Selama musim kawin, betina bertelur 1-5 telur di tanah berpasir atau berlumpur di dekat tepi air.
These turtles are known for their shy and secretive behavior. When threatened, they retreat into the water and hide among vegetation. During the breeding season, females lay clutches of 1-5 eggs in sandy or loamy soil near the water’s edge.

Kura pipi putih terdaftar sebagai “Terancam” punah dalam IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Ancaman utama terhadap populasinya termasuk hilangnya habitat dan degradasi akibat urbanisasi, pertanian, dan polusi. Selain itu, koleksi kura untuk perdagangan hewan peliharaan menimbulkan ancaman signifikan bagi kelangsungan hidup mereka.
